Somatics comes from the Greek word Sōma, meaning the body. It is a bottom up modality, which means we look at things like stress relief or emotional and traumatic processing through the lens of the body as a whole system. We do this through a combination of deep discussion and practices based on what you are experiencing. While this practice is newer in the Western, wellness context — it is deeply traditional and has been engineered by many indigenous and religious communities for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
Through discussion we will identify your concerns and incorporate practices in our sessions designed for your needs. These practices can include: aromatherapy, gentle stretching, meditation, breath work, visualisation, movement and even dance. Together, we will also develop home practices to integrate self-care goals, which feel possible and necessary for you. These can include: reading materials, writing exercises, additional resources and referrals.
I emphasise compassion as the basis of my practice and it is integral to all of my sessions.
